Ahead of the weekend’s matches, AC Milan were one of only two Serie A teams to have lost just one league game so far this season.

Fiorentina had already lost six so they were really the underdogs as they welcomed Milan with Lucas Torreira, the loaned Arsenal player, in their starting XI.

Still, Fiorentina won a shocking 4-3 victory. It was well deserved too, as they led their opponents for 75 minutes of the game, and led by two or more goals for more than a third of the game.

Afterwards, Torreira was hailed as one of the stars of the show.

Fiorentina News gave Torreira a score of 8/10, the highest rating given to a player on the pitch. They wrote that it was as “indispensable” as rain for plants.

Viola Nation added that they “start to fall in love with Torreira” in Florence and see him as a “bristling little character with so much boast”.

The performance comes just days after TMW announced that Fiorentina were working to try to get a discount on the option to buy Torreira from Arsenal.

The Italian outlet claimed that Lucas Torreira’s agent was in the Fiorentina offices this week, working to make his client’s loan transfer permanent.

Fiorentina are seeking a discount on the € 15million call option they initially agreed with Arsenal.

The suggestion in the article is that Torreira is keen not to return to Arsenal, and given that he will only have one year of contract left this summer, Fiorentina are hoping to secure a better deal.

But with the Uruguay international having put in so many good performances lately, that seems unlikely.

Upon returning to Fiorentina’s starting lineup on October 24 against Cagliari Calcio, Torreira impressed, with reports suggesting he helped turn his team’s situation around in their 3-0 victory.

Facing Spezia Calcio in another 3-0 win, Viola Nation wrote that Torreira “has run the show from the depths”.

Viola News reported that Torreira put in a “great performance”, and they claimed the lender has a big impact on the team when involved.

They added: “We can say goodbye to the experiments in the middle, the former Atletico man manages to give the team the right tempo, fights, runs, but above all collects a lot of balls.”

With such returns for a regular international holder, Arsenal could surely charge Fiorentina or find another buyer.
