As the second Test between Bangladesh and Pakistan looms in Sylhet, senior Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim exudes confidence in his team's ability to tame the formidable Babar Azam.
"Babar's presence is undoubtedly a boost for Pakistan," Mushfiqur acknowledges, "but we've faced him before and know his vulnerabilities."
The 2024 Rawalpindi series, where Bangladesh blanked Pakistan 2-0, serves as a testament to their strategic prowess. Nahid Rana, who dismissed Babar twice in that series, is a key figure in their plans.
"We've got a clear strategy for Babar," Mushfiqur asserts. "We know where to attack, and if we execute those plans effectively, we can put him and the entire Pakistan team under immense pressure."
The weather, however, poses a significant challenge. With the Test season coinciding with the rainy season, interruptions are expected.
"We're prepared for the on-and-off nature of the game," Mushfiqur says. "It's all part of our routine as professional cricketers. We just need to stay focused and adapt to the conditions."
The consistency of the current Bangladesh Test side is a point of pride for Mushfiqur. With a more frequent schedule, the team has evolved into a formidable unit.
"In the past, we'd play just three Tests a year, which made consistent results a challenge. Now, with a busier calendar, we've got a core group of experienced batters who deliver consistently."
Najmul Hossain Shanto, the current captain, receives high praise from Mushfiqur.
"Shanto leads by example, and his positive leadership style inspires the team. I have no doubt he'll continue to excel in Tests and other formats."
Mushfiqur's own preparations are meticulous, often extending beyond the team's official training sessions.
"I believe in maintaining my own process and preparation routine. It gives me the confidence I need to perform at my best."
As the second Test approaches, Bangladesh's confidence in their ability to counter Babar and secure another victory is palpable. The stage is set for an intriguing battle between two determined teams.
