Borussia Dortmund play fundraising game for flood victims in Germany

Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund gave back to the North Rhine-Westphalia community by playing a fundraising game – with the debut of new recruit Marin Pongracic – which raised € 295,000.

Dortmund faced Westfalenliga teams SpVg Hagen 1911 and SV Hohenlimburg 1910 for 45 minutes each in front of 5,000 fans in a sold-out Ischelandstadion on Tuesday, with players like Pongracic, Julian Brandt, Reinier and Marius Wolf all in attendance while most of the first – the team’s team is on an international mission.

The club organized a fundraising match on July 14 to help victims of severe flooding in the region.

The first 45 minutes ended 4-0 in Dortmund’s favor against Hagen, the 45 seconds ending 8-0 against Hohenlimburg – with Reinier, Brandt, Pongracic and Leonard Maloney all on the scoresheet.

Several Bundesliga clubs have made efforts to support victims of the floods last summer. In response to the devastation, Bayern, along with their partner Telekom and compatriot Bundesliga Cologne, donated 100,000 euros to the organization ‘Lichtblicke eV, which will distribute the fund to those affected.

Together, the DFB and the DFL have agreed to donate one million euros to deal with the consequences of the recent disaster.
