Chelsea star Kai Havertz scoffs at interest from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich

Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich have recently shown interest in signing Kai Havertz from Chelsea. The German, who made a name for himself in the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen, has appeared on the Bavarians’ radars as they look to bolster their attacking options. However, the midfielder himself addressed the rumors in his interview with Sky Sports Germany.

Havertz was part of Chelsea’s colossal summer business in 2020, when the club landed Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Hakim Ziyech, Edouard Mendy and Thiago Silva alongside the Leverkusen star. The Blues spent £72million on acquiring Havertz, who had just racked up 18 goals and 9 assists in 45 games during the 19/20 season. However, his big-money move to west London proved painful, often tying him with an exit.

Kai Havertz presented as Robert Lewandowski’s replacement by Bayern

Bayern Munich lost one of their greatest players this summer to Robert Lewandowski after he left for FC Barcelona. The striker’s departure has created a huge void at the Allianz Arena by bringing in Sadio Mane from Liverpool. While the Senegalese has enormous talent, at 30 he cannot be touted as a long-term replacement for the Pole at Bayern.

Moreover, Mane has signed a short-term contract, a three-year contract which runs until summer 2025. As a result, the German side want a long-term solution for his position as a striker and have therefore shown their interest in Kai Havertz. While the 23-year-old is a natural attacking midfielder, he can also function as a centre-forward. Since joining Chelsea, Havertz has been deployed as a centre-forward for 40 games, which has netted 14 goals and 4 assists from him.

Likewise, Bayern plan to use him as a centre-forward and are ready to sign him. Moreover, his trading experience in Germany also comes in handy as Havertz has 36 goals and 25 assists in 118 Bundesliga games. On the other hand, he himself laughed at Bayern’s interest during his recent interview with Sky Sports Germany. havertz said: “I heard about it [Bayern Munich rumours] on Instagram [laughs]. I can’t say anything about it – there was nothing at all. There were no discussions. »

As seen, the versatile 23-year-old is not yet ready to return to his native country despite having a lackluster spell with the West Londoners so far. Havertz also reiterated earlier that he wants to succeed at Stamford Bridge after the club paid him £72million. He repaid the price somewhat after scoring the winner in the club’s 1-0 Champions League final win over Manchester City.

A move to Bayern, however, seems highly unlikely at the moment as Chelsea view Kai Havertz as an integral part of their project under Thomas Tuchel. Despite still not reaching his peak due to fewer goalscoring contributions during his two seasons at Bridge, Havertz has the potential to succeed in the Premier League.

But concerns remain as Tuchel’s stance is unclear over the Germany international’s place in his starting XI. Ex-PSG manager wants real centre-forward since Romelu Lukaku loss [on loan] and the permanent sale of Timo Werner to RB Leipzig.
