Chelsea’s Jorginho sends message to fans after winning UEFA Men’s Player of the Year award

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho released an inspiring statement after receiving his UEFA Male Player of the Year award.

The Italian has had a very successful season after being instrumental in his club’s Champions League victory and his country’s success at Euro 2020.

He received his award in front of the crowd at Stamford Bridge ahead of the Blues’ Champions League game against Zenit on Tuesday night.

In a post on his Instagram, Jorginho had a few words of appreciation to say to his fans when collecting his award.

He said: “Years ago I was just a normal boy who dreamed of playing football.

“Today, I have the honor to celebrate this award with all of you, to believe in me and to support me.”

The central midfielder joined Chelsea in the summer of 2018 from Napoli. He has since made 147 appearances in blue and won medals in the Champions League, Europa League and Super Cup.

Jorginho added: “This award is for all dreamers in the world, to inspire you to keep believing. Dreams can come true!”

He took part in each of Italy’s Euro 2020 matches and scored the winning penalty in the semi-finals to send his country to the final, which they ultimately won.

The 29-year-old has also appeared in every Champions League game for Chelsea bar last season, including the final against Manchester City in Porto.

On Tuesday evening, Thomas Tuchel, N’Golo Kante and Edouard Mendy also received awards from UEFA for their immense 2020-21 campaigns, with the four recipients asserting themselves as the best in European football.
