Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag is currently Europe’s most wanted manager.

Ten Hag ticks almost all the boxes when it comes to Manchester United.

The temperature report that Ten Hag is “the obvious long-term choice” for the Red Devils.

His teams play exciting football, as the Netherlands’ top scorers while conceding the fewest goals, with confidence in young players. He is tactically solid and his side recently demolished Dortmund 4-0 in the Champions League.

Attracting him mid-season is going to be very difficult.

Manchester United wouldn’t be the first team to try

Newcastle United have already made an approach to Ten Hag as they seek to find a replacement for Steve Bruce.

The mail reports that Newcastle offered Ten Hag a salary of £ 11million.

That’s more than what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer earns (£ 8.3million) and would only come third in the Premier League behind Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola.

This underlines the financial power Newcastle has under its new owners.

And most intriguing of all, Ten Hag seems willing to refuse.

The rejection doesn’t come just because Ten Hag wants to stay with Ajax right now. Instead, he prefers to hold out for a high-level position.

He reportedly saw Newcastle as too big of a risk, despite knowing there will be more important jobs for him in the future.

The Manchester United post would be one of them, if he was drawn to the proposal.

The only mark against Ten Hag is how he could handle big names like Ronaldo and co. He has little experience in this area. Other than that, he’s the ideal candidate.

Ten Hag dismissed Tottenham this summer after approaching him, The mail reported, preferring to stay at Ajax.

One big club that could also start a pursuit for Ten Hag is Barcelona.

Marca reports that Ten Hag is Barcelona’s number one choice to replace Ronald Koeman.

Like United, Barcelona have been a mismanaged club behind the scenes and Ten Hag may have their doubts.

United will probably not be able to wait until next summer. Keeping Solskjaer as a semi-interim manager until then has little appeal, nor does hiring a real interim boss.

This is why Conte links have gained such momentum. He is available immediately if Manchester United wants him.
