Europa League qualifiers: how it works, how it works | UEFA Europa League
The UEFA Europa League is undergoing a major overhaul in 2021/22. The group stage has been reduced from 48 to 32 teams and there will be additional qualifiers before the round of 16.
Qualifying has also changed a lot, with eight third qualifying round games and ten in the play-offs. It started later than before, on August 3, and includes teams from the top 15 associations (mostly cup winners) and transfer teams from the UEFA Champions League.
If the teams pass the third qualifying round and the play-offs, they will line up in the group stage. The defeated teams are transferred to the UEFA Europa Conference League.
