BERLIN, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) – Lucas Silva Melo’s last-minute equalizer secured Eintracht Frankfurt a share of the home spoils against Leipzig in the Bundesliga 10th round on Saturday.

Both sides put on a rocky first half, but Leipzig created the first clear chance in the 10th minute when Poulsen couldn’t beat Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp.

Frankfurt grew in the game and nearly broke the deadlock in the 18th minute when Filip Kostic rocked the woodwork of a dangerous cross.

Kostic stayed in the thick of it and tested Leipzig goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi from a distance in the 21st minute.

The goal was scored at the other end of the pitch as Willi Orban snagged a corner at the far post where Poulsen scored the lead 1-0 at close range in the 35th minute.

The “Bulls” continued on the front foot and should have doubled their advantage, but Dominik Szoboszlai missed the target from a promising position three minutes later. The Hungarian international occupied Frankfurt but Szoboszlai lacked precision in front of goal in the dying stages of the first half.

After the restart, Leipzig defended in depth and kept all of their men behind the ball as Frankfurt could not pose a threat to the visitors’ defense.

Leipzig goalkeeper Gulacsi had nothing to do while Trapp had his hands full of work to avoid a higher deficit for his side.

Emil Forsberg had two golden chances to put the game to bed, but the Swede couldn’t beat Trapp in the 83rd minute and missed the empty goal very narrowly in the 89th minute.

Frankfurt had the last laugh and punished the visitors for their waste as Lucas Silva Melo, also known as Tuta, directed a free kick from Kostic to upset Leipzig in the closing seconds of the game.

“I knew we would have one last chance because Leipzig couldn’t kill the game. We are of course happy, although we know that we still have a lot to improve. The will was there and that is why we were awarded with the draw, “said Frankfurt head coach Oliver Glasner.

“I’m really disappointed. We gave up three points even though we were in control. We lost so many chances to make it 2-0 and then we have to swallow the equalizer. It’s insane,” said the coach. -Chief of Leipzig, Jesse Marsch.

In the deadlock, Eintracht Frankfurt remains in 15th place while Leipzig slips to 8th place in the Bundesliga standings.

The following matches conclude the 10th round on Sunday when Augsburg host Stuttgart and Borussia Mönchengladbach face newly promoted Bochum.
