Italian journalist Maurizio Pistocchi has congratulated Inter on signing midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu from city rivals AC Milan.

Speaking in an interview with Italian media Pillole di Calcio, reported by FCInter1908, the former Mediaset journalist gave his opinion on the transfer of the Turkish playmaker.

Calhanoglu’s arrival at Inter was relatively sudden by modern football transfer standards, with the player being announced virtually before there was time for rumors of his transfer to mount.

The player’s contract with the Rossoneri was about to expire and there had been no agreement on a renewal, and the Nerazzurri moved quickly to bring in the 27-year-old, with the midfielder being considered as a touchdown replacement Christian Eriksen within the team.

Based on the Turk’s form with Milan during his four years in Serie A, Pistocchi believes he is both a major loss for his former club and an important acquisition for the Nerazzurri.

He said: “Inter have done a lot by taking Calhanoglu on a free transfer. In this position, he replaces Eriksen and in Milan, he was able to do well.

Pistocchi also gives his opinion on Achraf Hakimi’s departure, saying that while the Moroccan will be missed, he is not as big a loss as a goalscorer would have been:

“Inter won the title but had to immediately sell one of their most important players, although I still think the hardest player to replace is the one who scores goals, rather than a winger or a lateral rear. “
