Tottenham fans love that midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is now recognized by UEFA for his qualities.

Hojbjerg, who was signed by Spurs from Southampton last summer, has been one of Euro 2020’s best players as he helped Denmark reach the semi-finals of the competition.

The 25-year-old made all six appearances for the Danes before being beaten 2-1 by England in the last four games last week.

The Spurs midfielder is well known for his fierce tackles, but he has shown exactly what he can do on the ball when playing for his country in the tournament – registering three assists in six matches.

His form in Euros saw him rewarded with a place in the UEFA tournament squad, the only Spurs player to feature in the XI.

The full team: Gianluigi Donnarumma (Italy), Leonardo Spinazzola (Italy), Harry Maguire (England), Leonardo Bonucci (Italy), Kyle Walker (England), Jorginho (Chelsea), Hojbjerg (Spurs), Pedri (Spain) , Federico Chiesa (Italy), Raheem Sterling (England), Romelu Lukaku (Belgium).

Spurs fans, naturally, are delighted with Hojbjerg’s inclusion in the squad, with one even calling for him to be named captain by new boss Nuno Espirito Santo before next season.

Mourinho said: “Pierre is above all very intelligent. He reads the game very well. He is going to be a coach one day, for sure.

“He’s painful, he asks questions about why we are doing this and why we are doing that. On the pitch he reads the situation very, very well and the people around him are really compact, they read the game.

“Physically he’s very, very strong and technically he’s a lot better than people think.

“Because sometimes people think the guy who’s technically good is the guy who goes backwards.

“The guy who is technically good is the guy who does something wonderful. But those are not my words. These are the words of coaches from 30 or 40 years ago. Simplicity is genius.

“And the guy is so straightforward in everything he does with the ball. And I think he’s a phenomenal player. Congratulations, Mr. [Daniel] Sample.”
