League of Women Voters Partners with Clouds Brewing for Election Awareness

RALEIGH, NC (WTVD) — On a sunny Saturday, people entering Clouds Brewing on West Street in Raleigh saw what looked like a game of spinning wheels with prizes available. This is partly true, but there is also a serious message here.

“Voter registration ends October 14,” said Cheryl Tung of the Wake County League of Women Voters. “But we are here to promote early voting, which runs from October 20 to November 5. I want to make sure everyone knows we have 15 polling stations, 7 days a week.”

League representatives have a table set with voting information, and people who agree to answer basic voting questions receive prizes, including t-shirts that say “VOTE” in big white letters.

The partnership includes a special brew that advocates for voter turnout.

“We will be selling Wheat the People, our collaboration beer with them, until Election Day,” said Clouds Brewing chief marketing officer Mike Zolnick. “And we’ll be donating the proceeds directly to the League of Women Voters of Wake County.”

Constituents and brewery customers like Brandon Park love the concept.

“Just seeing that there’s another beer option kinda encourages the question, why the name? Or why this product? It’ll get people talking,” Park said.

His friend Torin Saccoccio agrees.

“I haven’t missed a vote in years. You have people like me, and you have people who don’t think about it. They need reminders? That’s fine, that’s okay. But it’s important that they come out, and they express their opinions,” said Saccoccio.

The brew is an interesting incentive, but what does it taste like?

“It’s grapefruit and passion fruit, kinda light, fruity, kinda tart,” Zolnick said. “Goes very well with champagne!”

He said the Raleigh brewery will host League of Women Voters activity every weekend until Election Day.
