The return of Romelu Lukaku
Chelsea’s hunt for a No.9 has led them, via repeated efforts to sign Erling Haaland, to former Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian enjoyed a prolific campaign in Italy last season, scoring 24 goals and 10 assists as he helped Inter Milan claim the title for the first time in a decade.
His exploits alerted Chelsea, who rushed amid Inter’s financial crisis to negotiate a deal for the 28-year-old, valued at around 115million euros (97million pounds).

Despite spending £ 45million on Timo Werner last summer, Chelsea are clearly of the opinion that another goalscorer is needed, which the fact that Jorginho finished top scorer last season can attest to this.
At Lukaku they will get one of the best, who has already excelled in the Premier League and now in Serie A.
Surface images of Rom holding a Chelsea shirt
Enthusiasm for the move was ramped up on social media today, as photos of Lukaku holding Chelsea’s new home shirt surfaced on Twitter.

Amid rumors that the signing could be announced tomorrow (Tuesday), some fans even believe the forward may be in the running to play the Super Cup game against Villareal on Wednesday.
Romelu Lukaku’s first stint at Chelsea ended when the striker missed the decisive Super Cup penalty.
But he will have the chance to banish this “sad memory” at the start of his second stint with the Blues … as long as the club moves. https://t.co/b5lxLU1wM7
