Premier League headlines as Newcastle United urged to follow Manchester City’s lead

A round-up of the latest Premier League headlines on Sunday 10 April.

Newcastle will emulate Manchester City with community projects

Football finance expert Kieran Maguire believes Newcastle United can emulate the owners of Manchester City by investing in community projects around the city. maguire said Football Insider: “Although Mike Ashley was never popular, one area he never invested in was infrastructure. What we will see from PIF is a huge acceleration in terms of facilities, not just for players, but also for the community.

“The focus will be more on what Newcastle can bring to the community. It’s something Man City have always done under their owners.

“I think we can expect to see more of this because it’s costless from a financial fair play perspective. It also improves brand value as new owners are seen to be committed to the social misery.

“One thing that is very noticeable is the dividend they generate in terms of social good. At clubs like Everton, they can prove that for every £1 they donate there is a £9 benefit to the local economy. You have educational and social benefits as well as things like crime reduction.

Manchester City shares the spoils with Liverpool in the battle at the top

The Premier League title race is as it was after Manchester City and Liverpool split the spoils after a 2-2 draw at the Etihad. A single point separates the two teams with only seven games of the season remaining.

Pep Guardiola’s side thought they had snatched a winner with Raheem Sterling firing into the back of the net beyond Alisson Becker, but VAR ruled the former Liverpool winger offside. Riyad Mahrez’s late free-kick fired past the post but neither team managed to find a breakthrough.

The result means Liverpool now need Manchester City to drop points in the coming weeks if they are to snatch the title from City.
