The Premier League is still in talks on whether supporters will be required to provide proof of full vaccination against the coronavirus next season.

A decision has yet to be made as Brentford prepares to face Arsenal on August 13, the opening day of the new season, live Air sports.

The Premier League is reviewing the latest guidelines and working with clubs, supporters and authorities to finalize its protocols.

Sky Sports News was informed that the government has yet to confirm what constitutes a large crowd, and the type of relevant venues, for potential certification, after the majority of Covid restrictions in England were removed on Monday.

A Premier League decision will only follow binding rules imposed by the government, but a Downing Street spokesperson said they “are not seeking to draw lines around particular parameters”.

In April, the Premier League wrote to major political parties in the UK, in a joint letter with other sporting bodies, including the Football Association and the English Football League, and is only in the early stages of exploration of Covid status certificates.

“All of our sports can see the benefit that a COVID certification process offers in bringing more fans safely back to their sport as quickly as possible,” the letter said. “We know that our stadiums can only be fully filled through an insurance process.

“This process must ensure that everyone can access the stadiums and must include provisions that would verify a negative Covid test or antibody test or vaccination certification.”

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has stressed the need to remain “cautious” after the restrictions are lifted.
