Happy Sunday, Mane Landers. I hope you’re not too groggy to put your clocks forward. At least you won’t have to touch them again until November. Grab your favorite caffeinated drink and dive into today’s news from the world of football.

The Lions suffer their first loss of 2022

Despite dominating possession, passing accuracy, corners, shots and shots on target, Orlando City managed to lose at home to FC Cincinnati. Junior Urso pulled back a goal from Brandon Vazquez in the first half, but the Cincinnati forward scored again in the second half and this time the Lions went unanswered in a 2-1 loss to a team who had previously not scored a goal. the season. Cincy had lost 14 consecutive games since last September and before Saturday night had won only once in the last 27 times the team took the field. It won’t be easy to recover from the loss with a trip to the LA Galaxy looming and a visit to Portland the following week. Michael Citro has your match recap, while later today you can check out our five takeaways from the game and our player ratings and man of the match.

USA beat Mexico to win Concacaf Women’s U-20 Championship

The United States Women’s Under-20 National Team beat Mexico 2-0 in the Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Championship Championship game in the Dominican Republic on Saturday. The win gave the United States a record seventh Concacaf title in that age group. Striker Michelle Cooper scored in the third minute and midfielder Talia DellaPeruta converted a penalty late in the first half. Cooper won the tournament’s Golden Boot and Golden Ball as the competition’s top scorer and player, respectively. Both teams had already secured places for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2022 thanks to their semi-final victories. You can check out the highlights below.

Saturday MLS Results

After revealing his MLS Cup 2021 champions banner in their snowy opener at home, New York City FC crushed CF Montreal 4-1 with an assist and a goal from Magno Talles. The Columbus Crew are now unbeaten in their first three games of the season after beating Toronto FC 2-1. Already trailing 1-0, Brek Shea’s first-half red card crushed Inter Miami’s comeback chances and LAFC added another for a 2-0 win at a soggy and windy DRV PNK Stadium. Inter Miami’s Phil Neville challenged their only designated player Gonzalo Higuaín after the game, saying “for us to be successful, he has to perform.”

The Seattle Sounders defeated the LA Galaxy 3-2 to win their first game of the campaign. Darwin Quintero scored twice to lead the Houston Dynamo past the Vancouver Whitecaps, 2-1. The Chicago Fire beat DC United 2-0 to give Ezra Hendrickson his first win as manager. Real Salt Lake scored three late in the second half to overcome a 2-0 deficit and beat the New England Revolution 3-2. Carles Gil of the Revolution did not have fun in the snow.

The Philadelphia Union gave Jim Curtin his 100th career regular season win and went undefeated as they knocked out the San Jose Earthquakes 2-0. Club record signing Alan Velasco scored on his debut to give FC Dallas a 2-0 victory over Nashville SC.

The final games featured Colorado vs. Sporting Kansas City and Portland vs. Austin.

Ronaldo’s hat trick goes down in history

After missing his side’s 4-1 loss to Manchester City last week, Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick to propel Manchester United to a 3-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday. His three goals give him 807, making him the all-time leading goalscorer in the history of men’s football combined for club and country. Although this record is disputed and unofficial, FIFA estimates that the Austrian-Czech Josef Bican scored 805 goals during a career that spanned from 1931 to 1955.

Andrej Kramaric has extended his contract at Hoffenheim until 2025, the Bundesliga club announced on Saturday.

News of Kramaric’s new contract broke ahead of Hoffenheim’s 1-1 draw with Bayern Munich, a result that keeps the Sinsheimers on track for European football next season, and their 30-year-old talisman will be there for lead their challenge.

“It means everything,” said Kramaric bundesliga.com. “It feels like home here.”

Look: Kramaric on his “second home” in Hoffenheim

Kramaric, who joined the Sinsheimers in 2016, was reportedly out of contract this summer but there was never talk of not offering a ‘living Hoffenheim legend’ a new contract, in the sporting director’s words of the club, Alexander Rosen.

“For a player as extraordinary and ambitious as Andrej to extend his contract with us and thus start his eighth season for Hoffenheim from the summer shows on the one hand how strong a reputation we have developed and on the other apart, how much Andrej identifies with the TSG,” Rosen said.

“Andrej was one of the most consistent goalscorers in the Bundesliga for many years and he’s a player who can really make a difference. He’s a model professional and he’s already a living Hoffenheim legend.

“His experience, ability and exceptional character strengthen the whole team.”

The Croatian striker originally joined Hoffenheim on loan from Leicester City in the second half of the 2015/16 season, helping them avoid relegation against all odds under Julian Nagelsmann. The Sinsheimers went on to qualify for Europe in three of the next four campaigns, with Kramaric scoring 15, 13, 17, 12 and 20 goals in his first five full seasons with the club.

“I’ve enjoyed every minute here so far and look forward to an exciting future,” Kramaric said. “I never imagined that I would ever be considered among Germany’s best strikers, but it was only possible because I feel at home here.”

Kramaric scored 101 goals for Hoffenheim – 86 in the Bundesliga – in just over 200 appearances.

Highlights of Brentford’s win at Norwich in the Premier League

Team News: Brentford will have Kristoffer Ajer and Christian Norgaard available for Saturday’s visit to Burnley.

The duo were sent off with blows in last weekend’s 3-1 win at Norwich but were overtaken by boss Thomas Frank.

The only absentee for the Bees will be midfielder Josh Dasilva, who will serve Game 2 of his three-game suspension for an expulsion against Newcastle last month.

Brentford’s provisional squad…

Raya, Henry, Pinnock, Jansson, Ajer, Norgaard, Jensen, Wissa, Mbeumo, Canos, Toney, Fernandez, Sorensen, Roerslev, Stevens, Onyeka, Baptiste, Janelt, Ghoddos, Young-Coombes, Eriksen.

FREE TO WATCH: Highlights from Chelsea’s win over Burnley in the Premier League

Burnley captain Ben Mee is out with a shin injury which kept him out of action against Chelsea last weekend.

Midfielder Dale Stephens has returned to training but will also not be involved in London

Forward Matej Vydra (dislocated elbow), Erik Pieters (knee) and Johann Berg Gudmundsson (calf) are still absent.

Burnley’s provisional squad…

Pope, Taylor, Tarkowski, Collins, Roberts, Brownhill, McNeil, Lennon, Westwood, Weghorst, Rodriguez, Hennessey, Lowton, Bardsley, Long, Thomas, Cork, Richardson, Barnes, Cornet.

Prediction Jones Knows

The list of matches is softening for Brentford. After a streak of nine games in a row against top 10 teams, matches with those around them in the table have revived them. I want to support them here.

Apart from against Manchester City, on every occasion this season when they have failed to win the home game, Thomas Frank’s side have won the battle of expected goals – even in the 3-3 draw with Liverpool and the 1-0 defeat against Chelsea.

It’s a process that’s actually the sixth-best Premier League home record for expected goals. The 11/10 for a home win looks juicy.

With fussy Paul Tierney at the helm, a gamble on the card market appealed to me.

No referee has dealt more cards than Tierney this season (82) with an average of 4.2 per 90 minutes. Hopefully he’ll be busy booking Brentford players in this one.

Frank’s side played with much more intensity and aggression in their 3-1 win at Norwich, committing 18 fouls – a season high for them – and picking up five yellow cards.

This desire to press higher, rather than sit, has been a common theme in their matches against teams from the bottom eight. They have averaged 32.5 booking points in those 10 matches this season and nine of those matches have seen them pick up 20 or more booking points. You can get 6/5 with Sky Bet if it happens again in this match with a referee who likes a card. It’s a bet for me.

SCORE PREDICTION: 2-0 | FOCUS ANGLE: 20 or more Brentford booking points (6/5 with Sky Bet – Bet Here!)

Statistics Opta…

  • Unbeaten in their first eight league meetings at home with Burnley (W4 D4) between 1933 and 1996, Brentford have lost three of their last four at home to the Clarets, most recently a 3-1 defeat in January 2016.
  • Burnley are looking to complete the league double against Brentford for only the second time in their history, although the other occasion came in the last campaign they met (2015-16 in the Championship) .
  • Brentford’s 3-1 win at Norwich last time out ended an eight-game league winless streak for the Bees, as they scored as many goals in that win as they had in their seven previous league matches combined. Brentford are looking to secure back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time.
  • Since the start of 2018-19 (when he moved to Peterborough), Ivan Toney has scored 93 goals in all competitions, with only Mohamed Salah and Harry Kane scoring more for English league sides in this time. Toney also scored five hat-tricks in that span, with no player scoring more in all competitions.
  • Burnley’s Dwight McNeil has taken more shots without scoring than any other Premier League player so far this season (32). Overall, McNeil has failed to score with his last 40 shots in the competition, since scoring against Everton almost a year ago to the day (March 13, 2021).

Team News: Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani and Raphael Varane will be available for Manchester UnitedThe Premier League clash with Tottenham.

The Red Devils were without the experienced trio in last weekend’s 4-1 derby defeat to Manchester City, but should be boosted by their returns for the visit of Spurs’ top four rivals on Saturday night.

There is doubt over David de Gea’s involvement, with Sky Sports News being informed that there is a Covid test issue with the Spanish goalkeeper. Manchester United are trying to solve this problem, but Dean Henderson should fill in if De Gea is ruled out.

Luke Shaw remains out after testing positive for Covid-19 last week and Scott McTominay is set to miss with a calf injury. Mason Greenwood remains suspended by the club.

Manchester United’s provisional squad…

De Gea, Henderson, Heaton, Grant, Wan-Bissaka, Dalot, Maguire, Lindelof, Bailly, Varane, Jones, Shaw, Telles, Matic, Fred, McTominay, Mejbri, Pogba, Fernandes, Lingard, Mata, Sancho, Elanga, Rashford , Ronaldo, Cavani.

Tottenham Wing-back Ryan Sessegnon has picked up another hamstring injury which will keep him sidelined until the international break.

Sessegnon, who has a long history of similar issues, picked up the problem in Monday’s 5-0 win over Everton.

Oliver Skipp (groin) remains absent with Japhet Tanganga (knee).

Tottenham’s provisional squad…

Lloris, Gollini, Emerson, Doherty, Sanchez, Romero, Dier, Rodon, Davies, Reguilon, Winks, Hojbjerg, Bergwijn, Moura, Kulusevski, Son, Scarlett, Kane.

FREE TO WATCH: Highlights from Tottenham’s win over Everton in the Premier League

Prediction Jones Knows

I have trust issues with both teams. Having confidence when making informed betting decisions is absolutely crucial to coming out on top, so it’s a tough question. I decided it was a question of which defense can I trust the most when it comes to making an outright call on the game. Based on that, Spurs come out just ahead.

The reason could be Eric Dier. Antonio Conte has announced that Dier is ‘world class’ and his importance to this Tottenham side seems obvious. In the 12 games Dier started in the Premier League as a centre-back in a back three, Spurs have lost only once (W8, D3) and conceded just seven goals, keeping seven clean sheets.

However, instead of backing Spurs, I would much rather invest in Harry Kane being a deciding factor in this game, such is his current ruthless touch in front of goal. In his last 12 Premier League appearances, the England striker has put aside his early season struggles and scored nine times, posting a very impressive conversion rate of 17%. He has also scored in four of Tottenham’s last five away wins in the Premier League. I’ll rinse and repeat our successful angle from last week in the win over Everton backing Kane to score once (17/10), twice (11/1) and hit a hat-trick (66/1)

SCORE PREDICTION: 1-2 | BETTING ANGLE: Harry Kane to score (7/4 with Sky Bet – Bet Here!)

Statistics Opta…

  • Tottenham have won two of their last three Premier League away games against Manchester United (L1), as many as they have won in their first 26 visits to Old Trafford in the competition (W2 D3 L21).
  • Manchester United are winless in their last three games in all competitions (D2 L1) – there hasn’t been a longer winless streak since a run of six games in September/October 2019.
  • Man Utd’s Cristiano Ronaldo has been involved in seven goals in his last five Premier League games against Spurs (4 goals, 3 assists), scoring and assisting against them in three different appearances in this run.
  • Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has won four of his six meetings with Manchester United in all competitions, most recently winning the FA Cup final 1-0 against them in May 2018. However, the Italian lost in his two visits to Old Trafford against the Red Devils.
  • Tottenham’s Harry Kane has scored 93 goals in 137 Premier League away games – one more will see him tie Wayne Rooney for the most away goals in the competition’s history.

Despite Stuttgart’s struggles in the Bundesliga, US coach Pellegrino Matarazzo is confident the club are on the right track.

Matarazzo’s side have failed to win any of their last nine league games and are second from bottom in a direct relegation spot with 10 rounds remaining. But the New Jersey native firmly believes it’s only a matter of time before the turnaround.

“When we win, we will start rolling. The guys are on board, we are working hard. We have enough quality in the squad. So it’s just about getting that first hit to get the next one,” Matarazzo said Monday night in a video call with reporters.

Late goals have cost his side important points in recent games.

Stuttgart won with five minutes remaining, then conceded two goals to spare against Hoffenheim on Saturday, while the side conceded an injury-time equalizer against Bochum the previous week.

“My approach is never to call it luck. It’s always about investing more. Just a few percent more,” said Matarazzo, whose side will face Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday.

Matarazzo was a former defender who played for lower league sides in Germany before becoming a coach with the reserves and youth teams at Nuremberg. He was assistant to current Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann when they were both at Hoffenheim in 2018 and landed the Stuttgart job in December 2019. He brought the club back to the Bundesliga on the first attempt and guided him to a commendable ninth place in his first top. -flight season.

The club extended his contract last February.

This season has had a bumpy start with coronavirus infections and lengthy injury layoffs for key players such as Austrian striker Saša Kalajdžić, who scored 16 goals last season.

“It was just a continuous destabilization of the team with a lot of players fighting over each other,” Matarazzo said.

Stuttgart has one of the youngest teams in the division, the result of the club’s decision to invest in youth and their development in order to safeguard their future. Matarazzo is fully committed to the strategy, saying it “makes sense” at a time when transfer fees for developed players put them out of reach for smaller clubs whose finances have been further constrained by the impact of the coronavirus crisis. pandemic.

“We’ve seen big jumps in the market value of the players we have in the squad, that’s what we do. That’s our job,” Matarazzo said. on player development by staying in the league. So if we play in the second division next year, each player will have less market value.

ITALIAN FOOTBALL FANS

Growing up in New Jersey, Matarazzo and his family were Napoli fans, watching Serie A on a small television in his father’s bedroom.

“At some point it became bigger television,” he said, still remembering the goals scored by Maradona. “We watched all the goals and watched the free kicks he scored and we just celebrated every goal he scored. A few days after big family meals we were going to the park and I would be Maradona or my dad would be (Brazilian striker) Careca. We used to pick different players and live out that fantasy and that passion. That was definitely a big part of us.

Matarazzo also recalled idolizing Italian striker Roberto Baggio and American players Tab Ramos, Marcelo Balboa and Tony Meola, “also a guy from New Jersey…when my brother was playing goalie, he was also Tony Meola.”

Although Germany is his home after more than 20 years in the country, Matarazzo regularly keeps in touch with his family in the United States, even if they sometimes tease him.

“The worst for me was when I came home one last time. And my aunt said, ‘Hey Rino, you have an accent when you speak English.’ I said what? No I do not know. It’s true, I think that in German, I have an accent when I speak English, and it’s a bit embarrassing.

Week 1 of the 2022 MLS season continues on Sunday when New York FC and the AL Galaxy face off in a showdown at the start of the season. New York City FC claimed their first-ever MLS title last season with victory over the Portland Woods in a shootout. The Galaxy, meanwhile, missed the playoffs in 2021, but LA will be eager to start the 2022 season with a win at home.

Kick-off from Dignity Health Sports Park is at 5 p.m. ET. Caesars Sportsbook lists the Galaxy as the slight +160 favorite (risk $100 to win $160) on the 90-minute money line in its latest LA Galaxy odds against New York City FC, with NYCFC the +165 underdog. A draw is priced at +245 and the plus-minus for total goals scored is 2.5. Before you lock in the NYCFC vs. LA Galaxy picks, be sure to see football insider Brandt Sutton’s MLS predictions.

Sutton, a former college football player, has been SportsLine’s top editor for nearly five years. He has been following football closely for much longer and takes into account managerial tactics, projected line-ups and past performances to make the most informed decisions possible, keeping his finger on the pulse of the game all over the world.

  • LA Galaxy money line vs. NYCFC: Galaxy +160, NYCFC +165, Draw +245
  • LA: The Galaxy had 13 wins, 12 losses and nine draws last season
  • NYC: New York City FC had a differential of +20 goals in 2021

Featured Game | Los Angeles vs. New York City FC

Why you should support New York City FC

NYCFC had one of the best goal differentials in the league last season, finishing at +20. New York City has scored 56 goals in 2021, the second highest mark in the Eastern Conference. The NYCFC was led by Valentine Castellanos, who led the entire league with 22 goals scored. Castellanos found the back of the net twice in NYCFC’s 2-0 victory over Santos de Guapiles in the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions League.

New York’s defense was also hard to penetrate last season, allowing just 36 goals in 34 league games. In their run to the MLS Cup, Ronny Deila’s side have stifled their opponents and limited the Timbers and Union to just eight shots on target combined in their last two games.

Why you should support the LA Galaxy

The Galaxy caused a stir in the off-season by signing the Brazilian Douglas Costa on loan from the Italian Serie A side Juventus. Costa will bring pace and creativity to a Galaxy attack that scored 50 goals a season ago. Javier Hernandezuniversally known as Chicharito, is the main playmaker of the galaxy.

Chicharito registered 17 goals and two assists for the Galaxy last season. Additionally, LA has scored two or more goals in five of its six preseason games, so the Galaxy will expect to find the back of the net against a New York defense that has given up 36 goals in 2021.

How to make choices between NYCFC and LA Galaxy

Sutton took an in-depth look at LA Galaxy vs. NYCFC and locked in his best bets. He leans on 2.5 goals, and he also has two additional best bets and offers a full breakdown of this MLS matchup. He’s just sharing his MLS expert picks on SportsLine.

Empoli welcome Juventus to Carlo Castellani on Matchday 27 of the Italian Serie A. Empoli haven’t lost too many games lately, but they’re still not a great defensive team, and that could cost them dearly here. Juventus are scoring a lot more goals lately, and they were solid in the Champions League earlier this week, but now they have to focus on Serie A.

Even though Empoli haven’t lost many games, they haven’t won any of their last 10 games in a row. Mainly because there are a lot of bad teams in Serie A this season, Empoli are outside the relegation zone, in 13and place with 31 points, but their defense is one of the weakest in the league. Empoli have conceded 50 goals so far. Offensively, Empoli scored 38 goals, and that’s not bad. Haas, Marchizza and Verre are all injured for Empoli. Pinamonti is Empoli’s top scorer with 9 goals. Bajrami added 4 assists. Empoli aren’t a bad team overall, they can’t move away from the relegation zone, but I think they’re good enough to stay out.

Juventus are in good form right now, they have 4 wins and 4 draws in their last 8 games, and they even got a positive result in the Champions League earlier this week. Juventus were lucky in that game against Villarreal as they should have received a red card in the second half which would have likely cost them a positive result. In Serie A, Juventus is now in 4and place with 47 points, they scored 38 goals, while their defense was solid with 23 goals conceded. Juventus now have quite a few injuries and Chiesa, Dybala, Sandro, Rugani and McKennie are all on the list. Chiellini and Bernardeschi are still questionable for this game. Dybala is Juventus’ top scorer with 7 goals, but now that he’s injured Vlahovic needs to step up, and he’s done that pretty well so far. Dybala also added 5 assists. Juventus also play the Coppa Italia against Fiorentina next week, and I think they will go for the win. Juventus will have to play much better in the Champions League second leg if they are to advance, but they are certainly capable of it.

Empoli are terrible at the moment, and they haven’t won any of their last 10 games. Juventus may be a bit tired, but I think they will win here. I take Juventus on the money line.

Overview

Sassuolo against Fiorentina

Sassuolo could be a valuable shade at home for a Fiorentina side with an eye on Wednesday’s Coppa Italia semi-final against Juventus.

There is no love lost between these two, let alone right now after Dusan Vlahovic sold 17 goals from La Viola to Juve, and Sassuolo can take advantage of that potential distraction.

Fiorentina are missing key centre-back Nikola Milenkovic and central midfielder Lucas Torreira, and Sassuolo will be absolutely abuzz after last weekend’s 2-0 win over champions Inter.

Sassuolo will also be boosted by the return of centre-back Gianmarco Ferrari after a one-game ban.

Getafe v Alaves

Getafe can put daylight between them and the La Liga drop zone by taking care of a blunt Alaves unit in the outskirts of Madrid.

Getafe are almost bankers at home these days, having won six of their last seven at home – they’ve drawn the other – and that run includes a triumph over leaders Real Madrid.

Under Quique Sanchez Flores, appointed in October, they’ve been transformed and it’s hard to believe they’ll actually be involved in a relegation tumble, although picking up points early on the table will ease any worries.

They should be more than good enough to deal with Alaves, Spain’s lowest goalscorer with 19 goals, six of them on penalties. They look totally dependent on Joselu at 12 goals – no one else in the squad has scored more than two – and they’ve only won the league once since the first week of November.

Mönchengladbach vs. Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg have beaten Borussia Mönchengladbach more times than any other side in the Bundesliga and they can extend their grip on the Foals this weekend.

Gladbach host Wolves at Borussia Park, still licking their wounds from last week’s 6-0 dismantling by Dortmund, in which old Marco Reus netted a brace.

Now another former player, Max Kruse, will have his sights set on a squeaky Gladbach backline who have already conceded 19 goals at home this season, the same they let slip through the entire 2020-21 season.

Adi Hutter’s men have won just one of their last six, one of their last five at home and have scored 15 goals in front of their own fans in their last five matches, with at least two goals in each of these matches.

JUVENTUS striker Dusan Vlahovic is dating Miss Italy winner Carolina Stramare – nicknamed ‘Italian Megan Fox’.

And, according to Italian media, she has been compared to Hollywood actor Fox due to the pair’s physical resemblances.

Stramare won the Miss Italy beauty pageant title in 2019.

And she dedicated the victory to her mother, who sadly died of cancer the previous year.

Meanwhile, Stramare’s partner Vlahovic scored just 32 seconds in Juventus’ Champions League clash with Villarreal on Tuesday night.

The Serb, who was linked with a move to Arsenal, started with a goal on his debut in a 2-0 win over Verona earlier this month.

He caught the eye of the Serie A giants after a wonderful 18 months for Fiorentina.

In a season and a half, Vlahovic scored 41 goals in 64 games for the club.

And he’s hoping for a similar goalscoring return during his time with Max Allegri’s side.

RB Leipzig are back in the Bundesliga Champions League places after the Saxony-based side ripped through ten-man Hertha Berlin in the German capital, where Christopher Nkunku (2), Benjamin Henrichs, Dani Olmo, Amadou Haidara and Yussuf Poulsen all found the target for the frantic guests.

Hertha Berlin 1-6 RB Leipzig
Goals: 0-1 Henrys 20′, 1-1 Jovetic 48′, 1-2 Nkunku (pen.) 64′, 1-3 Nkunku 67′ (assist: Olmo), 1-4 Olmo 74′, 1-5 Haidara 81′ (assist: Adams), 1-6 Poulsen 88′ (assist: Olmo)

A look at the pre-match form guide suggested that Leipzig would dominate their capital opponents. With four wins from their last five top-flight matches, Domenico Tedesco’s side looked set to reestablish a place in the top four in the Bundesliga. Hertha, on the other hand, had not won any of their six competitive outings since the start of the year and found themselves in the relegation zone as a result. And that’s how the visiting team took the game against their hosts. As a precursor to the game’s first goal, Nordi Mukiele launched an effort away from the far post. During one of several subsequent attacks on the outside, Poulsen brilliantly threatened into the area and picked out Henrichs. The full-back’s initial shot was deflected straight at him by goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow. Henrichs’ follow-up attempt had a better result, finding its way against Linus Gechter to put Leipzig ahead. Schwolow then salvaged a free-kick from Dominik Szoboszlai to keep Hertha decent, while at the other end Marco Richter kicked in a header to cheer on the home fans.

Ahead of the match, Hertha coach Tayfun Korkut called on his team to be “brave” and “play on the toes” against Die Roten Bullen. If this message did not reach his players in the first half, it certainly had the desired effect at the start of the second. The Old Lady’s top scorer with six goals this season, Stevan Jovetic led the way for his teammates, collecting the ball in his own half before setting off on a run that ended with a shot that ended flew via a deviation from Josko Gvardiol. The equalizer sparked a mini-show from Jovetic, with the Montenegrin taking center stage and almost putting his side in front with some effort that made the previously dominating Leipzig cringe. Those fears would soon be allayed, however, after Nkunku was awarded a penalty which saw Marc Oliver Kempf sent off. The French striker quietly converted his 12th goal of this Bundesliga season on the spot. He added another from close range soon after, completing a fine move from Leipzig to bring daylight between the teams. Schwolow then did his best to deny a fourth with a shot save from Andre Silva, but Dani Olmo was there with the follow up to put Hertha to the sword. Haidara’s superb strike and Poulsen’s cheeky late chip only added to the visitors’ festivities.

Match statistics

  • This is Leipzig’s biggest away win in the Bundesliga.
  • Nkunku can count three braces among his 13 goals in the top flight this season.
  • Henrichs’ two goals this season have both come from coach Domenico Tedesco.
  • Hertha have scored at least once in their 12 home games in the Bundesliga this season.
  • The Berliners have now lost all six of their home games against Leipzig.
  • Leipzig have recorded more wins (ten) and scored more goals (45) against Hertha than any other Bundesliga club they have faced.
