Two Premier League clubs interested in Sheffield United star Sander Berge

Sheffield United could still lose star midfielder Sander Berge this summer, with Athleticism signaling interest from two Premier League clubs.

Berge was a star performer in the final months of the season as he produced some fine performances playing further to help propel United into the top six. He scored his penalty in the shootout loss to Nottingham Forest and has been in fine form in pre-season ahead of the opener with Watford a week today.

However, Athleticism reported today that there is indeed interest from the PL in Berge, and that if an offer comes in around the £22m United have paid for him the board will not put themselves on the line. across his path.

Of course, it remains to be seen if anyone is willing to shell out that cash. Leeds United are one of the clubs that would like Berge, while last summer Arsenal and Tottenham showed interest.

The greatest wonder of a season EVERY season (2001-02 to 2021-22)

Paul Heckingbottom spoke about Berge this summer and insisted no suitable offer had been tabled. He insists the player is happy at Bramall Lane and there is an ongoing dialogue regarding his role and future with the club.

Our take: Berge hard to replace but £20m hard to turn down

It is well known that Sander has a £35m release clause in his contract and if a club sticks to that then there will be no complaints from United fans.

However, that £20million fee would be a little harder to swallow. Of course, the club needs money and it’s hard to refuse such money in the league. The big problem is to replace it. United won’t get all of that £20m to spend, so it would be hard to find a player who can fill the void.

Ideally, Sander gives us one more season and helps us towards promotion. If we miss out then he can move on knowing he’s done his best to get the club back on its feet.
