West Ham “reluctantly” accepted UEFA’s sanctions barring its fans from attending their next away match in the Europa League.

UEFA has indicted West Ham after their match against Genk. They accused traveling supporters of crowd disturbance and throwing objects during their match in Belgium on November 4.

These charges were upheld. As a result, the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) fined the club € 30,000 for crowd disturbance and an additional € 4,500 for throwing objects. .

They have also been banned from selling tickets to away supporters for their next “UEFA competitive game” against Rapid Vienna on 25 November.

While the club “condemns the behavior” of those responsible, they also expressed their “disappointment” at the short notice of the measures.

A club statement read: “West Ham United can confirm that the club reluctantly accepted the UEFA sanctions regarding our Europa League Group H away game against KRC Genk on Thursday (November 4th).

“This means that our supporters will unfortunately not be allowed to travel for our next Europa League away game – against Rapid Vienna on Thursday 25 November.

“Despite the club’s robust processes regarding our own security and operations in support of our ticketed fans who made it to Genk, evidence was presented to confirm that a small number of ticketless individuals caused unrest and illegally obtained entry to the Genk stadium.

“West Ham United condemns the behavior of this group of individuals and we endeavor to identify them as a result of their actions, which ultimately led our supporters – the vast majority of whom have behaved impeccably in Belgium – to be punished and lead to the conviction of David Moyes. team being forced to play in Austria without the support of the club’s fans, whose loyal and passionate support has boosted the Hammers in the first four unbeaten games of the Europa League adventure so far.

“Although the club accept the sanctions, we also want to express our disappointment at the extremely short notice of the measures, which were received eleven days after the Genk game and just over a week before the game against Rapid Vienna which has significantly limited our options and unfortunately had an impact on supporters who booked return travel and accommodation in Austria. ”

Moyes’ side are in a strong position after four Europa League matches. They collected 10 points and are six ahead of Genk, third. It only takes a draw in Vienna to reach the round of 16 of the competition.
