Young Canadian Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies has been named to his country’s CONCACAF Gold Cup squad.

Davies has been included with Bundesliga 2 team defender Scott Kennedy Jahn Regensburg in the Canadian roster for the tournament, which takes place in the United States from July 10 to August 1.

The Bayern speedster was the top scorer on his Gold Cup debut in 2017 and was also named the best young player in this edition of the competition after finding the back of the net three times on Canada’s way to the quarter-finals.

Two years later, Davies took on the role of supplier to the national team in another race in the final eight stages as he collected three assists for his teammates.

Despite his youth, the 2020 Canadian Player of the Year is heading towards his third Gold Cup as a senior talisman in the squad, and with nine goals in 23 international appearances to date.

Watch: 2020/21 has been a big season for Davies

The three-time Bundesliga winner – who recently donated bottled water and other hot-weather essentials during the North American heatwave – will now use all of his experience to help Canada win a first Gold title Cup since 2000.

Canada lifted the trophy in February of that year, eight months before Davies was even born.

They will begin their campaign against Martinique in Kansas City on July 11 in a Group B which also includes a United States team with Schalke forward Matthew Hoppe.
