Transfer News: Chelsea target Kingsley Coman to sign contract extension with Bayern Munich
According to the French publication The team [Print Edition] via Sport Witness, as quoted by Absolute Chelsea (h / t Football.London), Chelsea transfer target Kingsley Coman is expected to sign a contract extension with Bayern Munich soon. He hasn’t gained many minutes this season, having suffered injuries at regular intervals.
The Blues had “made an offer” to land the Frenchman but took a heavy blow with this update. His current contract will end in June 2023, which has seen him be linked with a move to Stamford Bridge. However, that seems to be out of place and he will now sign a new deal with Bayern.
Manchester City were also keeping an eye on Coman as he tried to facilitate a move to strengthen their squad, but their plans were thwarted by this update. It remains to be seen whether Thomas Tuchel’s team will turn their attention to anyone else in the coming days.
The prospect of signing the 25-year-old would have been great considering that some of our attacking signings haven’t reached the heights they have shown at their previous clubs. Although they’ve started clicking again recently, it would have been nice if we had several options to choose from if they couldn’t manage to maintain that shape.
Then again, there are downsides like the regular injury issues that the France international continues to plague for some time. Despite that, he has scored five goals and two assists in just 905 minutes in all competitions this quarter. But all is not lost because his signature would not have been a priority for us anyway.
On the contrary, the defensive areas should be the ones we should focus on, given the injury issues as well as the contractual situation of some of the players. Antonio Rudiger, Cesar Azpilicueta and Andreas Christensen are within the last six months of their respective deals and could leave next summer if they make the decision.

Ben Chilwell and Reece James are currently injured and there are no options to make up for their absence. Azpilicueta is not a natural winger but can still do a good job in this role, while Marcos Alonso is Chilwell’s only replacement. It shows how there is a need for reinforcement regardless of their availability.
In the latest update, Eurosport revealed that the Bundesliga forward has finalized the signing and extended his contract until 2027.
