A player with great potential

Mengi had a championship loan spell last season with County Derby, which has seen its ups and downs, as you would expect for an 18-year-old playing in a cut-throat league in a side-by-side squad. difficulty.

His move was cut short by injury and although he was fortunate enough to feature in United’s first team in the pre-season, his performances have been mixed.

Upon his return to the Under-23s, Mengi was excellent, regaining his lacked form after the lockdown in 2020 before his Derby loan.

Mengi is thus much better equipped for his loan to Birmingham thanks to his performances in United’s Under-23s and in the UEFA Youth League.

His departure leaves United a bit light at center-back at youth level, although there is a chance that Will Fish will be recalled from his Stockport County loan.

Mengi could be relegated to Birmingham, who are 18th in the league, but a winning streak could just as easily see them launch into the playoff race.
