Marco Verratti reveals why he changed his position at PSG against Manchester City to ‘break the press’, when he has no plans to leave Paris, even after retiring from football.
The Italy international has been at Paris Saint-Germain since leaving Pescara in 2012 and has never played in Serie A, with the Delfini still in Serie B at the time.
“Paris gave me everything! From a football point of view, I had the chance to play with and against great champions, in great matches, that’s what I wanted above all, “said the 28-year-old on France Bleu.
“I fell in love with this club and that’s why I always try to give the maximum, to give back the faith that has been put in me.
“I was a little boy who came from a small town in an Italian province and here I had everything. My children were born here! When you’re a little over 18, those are your best years. And I lived them here.
“It was amazing. I became a man and I found love. So everything I’ve been through here will be amazing memories. Life afterwards? I still have a little bit of time. know, is that I will try to always live here in Paris.
Verratti recently made his comeback from injury and played a key role in PSG’s Champions League victory over Manchester City.
Mauricio Pochettino beat Pep Guardiola with the Italian in a different midfielder role.
“Let’s say that in the middle of the field, I feel good everywhere. There are different positions, but the manager chooses them. He was the one who, against City, asked me to play in front of the defense.
“This is where we had to break the press, because it’s a team that presses a lot and that causes head-to-head situations.
“But sometimes I can play more forward, the coach knows he can ask me to adapt according to the opponents.”
